Discover Devil’S Knob Grill

Nestled high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Devil’s Knob Grill feels like one of those hidden gems you stumble upon when you least expect it. Located at 183 Clubhouse Dr, Wintergreen Resort, VA 22967, United States, this restaurant captures the mountain spirit perfectly-cozy yet sophisticated, with views that make every meal feel like an occasion. From the moment you step inside, there’s an inviting hum of conversation, the scent of grilled meats wafting from the kitchen, and a warmth that makes you feel right at home.

I first visited after a long day of hiking the nearby trails, and the contrast between the crisp mountain air and the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread was unforgettable. The hostess greeted me with a smile, and within minutes, I was seated by the window overlooking the golf course. It was easy to see why locals and resort guests speak so fondly of this place-it’s not just about food; it’s about atmosphere. The blend of rustic wood interiors, soft lighting, and friendly chatter creates an experience that’s both relaxing and elevated.

The menu is surprisingly diverse for a mountain-side diner. You’ll find locally sourced ingredients featured prominently, from Virginia farm beef to Appalachian trout. My personal favorite was the “Smoky Ribeye,” cooked perfectly medium-rare with a crust that could rival any high-end steakhouse. The mashed potatoes were creamy with just the right hint of garlic, and the roasted vegetables had a sweetness that only comes from being freshly picked. A dining companion ordered the “Blue Ridge Burger,” stacked high with caramelized onions and melted cheddar-it was juicy, messy, and downright delicious.

According to the Virginia Tourism Corporation, Wintergreen Resort has become one of the state’s most visited mountain destinations, drawing in food enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers alike. Restaurants like this play a big part in that appeal. Executive Chef Michael Edwards, who trained at the Culinary Institute of America, has brought an innovative twist to the menu by infusing traditional Southern comfort food with modern flair. His attention to balance-whether in a tangy vinaigrette or a perfectly charred piece of salmon-shows the precision of someone who truly understands the craft of cooking.

Every server I encountered seemed genuinely knowledgeable about the dishes, recommending wine pairings from local Virginia vineyards. The wine list features a curated selection of reds and whites, including standout bottles from Barboursville and Veritas Vineyards. It’s evident that the restaurant emphasizes supporting regional producers, which adds authenticity and trustworthiness to the entire dining experience.

What sets this spot apart from other resort restaurants is its consistent quality and attention to detail. Online reviews echo this sentiment, with many diners highlighting the “exceptional mountain view dining” and “warm, attentive service.” On TripAdvisor, it maintains a strong reputation, with guests often praising both the flavors and presentation. In fact, one reviewer mentioned that the “Blackened Salmon with citrus glaze was one of the best meals” they had during their stay-a testament to the restaurant’s culinary reliability.

From a professional standpoint, what makes Devil’s Knob Grill shine is the seamless integration of experience and environment. As someone who has explored numerous resort restaurants across the U.S., I can say few balance fine dining and comfort so gracefully. The food feels handcrafted, the service feels personal, and every detail-from the plating to the pacing-reflects thoughtful execution. Even during busier dinner hours, staff remain composed, ensuring guests never feel rushed.

Whether you’re winding down after a day on the slopes or celebrating a special occasion, this restaurant offers more than just a meal-it offers a memory. Between the scenic setting, expertly prepared dishes, and genuine hospitality, it’s easy to understand why guests keep returning. If you find yourself at Wintergreen Resort, take a short detour up the mountain road, follow the signs toward the golf clubhouse, and let the evening unfold. The flavors, the view, and the feeling of being tucked away above the clouds will stay with you long after you leave the table.

  • After two years and a pandemic, we found happiness once more on the slopes. The Coppermine’s legendary staff has a new home! The professional and courteous staff are ready with tasty cocktails, a robust wine list, and a kitchen that delivers on taste and value. Filet mignon, while a smaller portion, was paired with goat cheese, potatoes, and green beans delivering a balanced and savory meal. The juicy and flavorful scallops were seared to a light crisp with beets, cream, and chive. The chicken was generous and perfectly juicy with a crispy skin and rich risotto. (Pictured) The smoked duck was rich and tender and accented with sweet potatoes and stuffing. (Pictured)

  • Very good!! And awesome server too. I had the halibut special and while it needed a little salt it was pretty spectacular. I also loved the lobster app and the pork belly was probably the best I've had. So good. The creme brulee had a good taste but was very cold. Oh and the mushroom soup! It was delicious as well. Had a great time. Would definitely recommend.

  • We had a great experience here - the food was all fantastic and our waitress was super personable. We had a great table by the windows overlooking the mountains at sunset, which was beautiful. It was quiet and classy - would definitely recommend.

  • If you're looking for more of an upscale meal in the Wintergreen area this would seem to be the spot. Located at the golf course club house it over looks the course, has a great outdoor covered dining area, and a nice simplistic menu. We had the NY Strip and the shrimp and grits. Both were delicious and the steak was a very generous cut. The service was very good. Not necessarily a great place for families with young kids, the clientele was skewing a little older the night we were there. Expect to spend $30-$40 per entrée.
